Elements is the first set of books in an early reading scheme aimed at the older struggling reader. This has come out of a need for a dyslexia reading scheme that is interesting for older children.
Working in collaboration with the Head of Canterbury Dyslexia Centre we have identified a need for short books with lots of practice within one level.
I have developed characters based on vowel sounds and I’m working with the Arlene Wake the Head of Canterbury Dyslexia Centre to develop story line.
Al and Ed are a boy and a girl who have to help the elements restore balance in the world.
Im is the bird girl, she harnesses the power of air. Od is a water boy who harnesses the power of water. Ug is a mole man who is earth. Fi is the fox who is trying to harness the power of fire but he is young and his tail keeps catching fire. Fi represents the part time vowel ‘y’.
We have created 6 books that are wordless to start off with but they help to find vowel sounds. As the story emerges more words appear. There will be games and lots of reinforcements. The books are very short so you can get through them.
